Theoretical study of bandwidth control of full-pitch band of a ferroelectric liquid crystal by varying incident angle and electric field

Description
Summary:The optical properties of the full-pitch band of a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) are theoretically studied. To investigate the FLC stopband under an electric field, the molecular orientation of the FLC is calculated using Frank s continuum theory, and then the transmission spectra are calculated by Berreman s 4Ă—4 matrix method. The calculations show that the bandwidth of the full-pitch band of the FLC can be controlled by varying the electric field and incident angle.
