Summary: | Following the great tradition of Leeuwenhoek, the founder of microbiology, in whose honour this lecture has been established, I propose to give a short account of some of the results achieved by the use of the microscope, and particularly the electron microscope, in the study of viruses. I shall also indicate some possible future applications of this instrument in the elucidation of certain problems. I am mainly concerned with the viruses affecting plants and insects, since these have been my special study. |
