Summary: | The forest mushroom Lentinus edodes is the second most important cultivated mushroom worldwide. Currently, L. edodes is widely cultivated on small-diameter hardwood logs, especially oak species. However, only fragmentary knowledge exists concerning the physiology and biochemistry of fruiting of this basidiomycete and other cultivated mushrooms. In part, this is due to the difficulty of fruiting edible fungi in pure culture on chemically defined media. The purpose of this study was to develop a chemically defined medium for the fruiting of L. edodes . |
