Description
Summary:The article summarizes the results of the first two seasons of rescue excavation, in 2005 and 2006, on the coastal promontory of Priniatikos Pyrgos, in the Istron area of eastern Crete. Excavation has revealed settlement that extends from Early Minoan I to mature Late Minoan IA, is renewed during historical antiquity, and encompasses an important medieval component. The site preserves one of the longest historical trajectories that can be documented in the Mirabello area. Excavation of this harbor settlement enhances our knowledge of the cultural development of the Vrokastro Survey area, and this broad portion of the Gulf of Mirabello coast.
