Description
Summary:The occurrence of the expanding species Pogonatum dentatum in the diaspore bank of forest roads ranging from newly built to more than 10 years old is studied in northern Sweden. Spatial distribution is investigated by taking soil samples at distances from 0.05 m to 50 m from colonies, on forest roads of 4 and 9-10 years age. The presence of P. dentatum is compared with the presence of Pogonatum urnigerum, which is naturally occurring in the same habitat in the study area. P. dentatum is most frequent at the youngest roads (0-4 years old), whereas P. urnigerum shows a preference for the older roads (more than 4 years old). The spatial distribution of P. dentatum in the diaspore bank shows a decreasing frequency with distance from parent colonies on both of the roads investigated (4 and 9-10 years old).
