Summary: | Recent res is presented on soc & emotional behavior in infancy through an analysis of some 60 items offered in a Bibliog. Continuity & diff's between recent & previous res are outlined. One pervasive & important recent res emphasis has been a concern with a more precise analysis of stimulus & situational determinants of soc & emotional behavior (in studies of infant emotional behavior in both humans & animals) & with analysis of the eliciting & reinforcing effects of salient stimuli involved in infant-adult interaction. Another important set of issues is covered by res on approach & withdrawal processes, exploratory behavior, curiosity & intrinsic motivation, & arousal & activation. One of our main problems is still that of adequately conceptualizing the nature of emotional processes early in life & the transformations undergone by these processes & their precursors during ontogenesis, beginning with birth. Finally, we cannot adequately study soc & emotional behavior in infancy independently of other basic psychol'al processes involved in the infant's behavior & development. I. Langnas. |
