Summary: | Emilia fosbergii (Asteraceae) introduced in Argentina. The widespread annual weed of the American tropics, Emilia fosbergii Nicolson was collected in northern Argentina (Iguazú National Park, Misiones Province), in moistured rocky areas. Its occurrence in the National Park has increased the range of dispersion of this exotic tetraploid species near two degrees South, and ca. six degrees West from the Atlantic coast, at the southern limit, and it is a consequence of the disturbance of the natural vegetation in the area. The tetraploid nature (n = 10) of the Argentine population was determined. Emilia Cass. is also a new adventitious generic record for Argentina. |
