Description
Summary:The relation between the achievement motive and the level of performance was examined separately on three intelligence levels. The population examined was of youngsters aged 19-20, who took tests intended to select suitable candidates for officer courses. The level of aspiration, defined as an estimate of self-performance in certain given tasks in the near future, was measured in three unstructured situations. It was found that the relation between the achievement motive and the level of performance in the tests is closer on the average level of intelligence than on the high level. This sort of interaction seems worthy of further examination with regard to other motives and different levels of tasks difficulty. The level of aspiration was found to be linearly related to the achievement motive in unstructured situations. As the task became less structured, the correlation rose markedly. This possibly indicates an economic way of assessing certain motives.
