Summary: | An improved and fast version of a closed loop system for measuring net CO2 exchange rates (NCER) in the field using a portable infrared gas analyser (IRGA) is described. An electronic timer—differentiator device measures and displays very accurately the time period necessary to bridge over a constant and preselected CO2 concentration difference. The time required for each measurement from start of the measurement to display of final results is c. 9 s for NCER of 24 μmol m—2 s—1. The measurement interval is sufficiently short that no environmental control in the perspex mini-cuvette is needed. Some satisfactory data of NCER measurements obtained under field and glasshouse conditions on poplar, sugar beet and winter wheat are presented. |
