Summary: | Morphological characteristics of zircons in massive and incipient charnockites show contrasting features between the two types. Significantly greater length/breadth ratio in massive charnockite suggests crystallization in igneous environment, whereas zircons of incipient charnockites point to extended transport, eventual rounding and deposition in sedimentary environment. Further, morphological data agree with the petrological and geochemical observation that the incipient charnockites are probably the highgrade (granulite facies) reaction products of metasediments (argillaceous and arenaceous) whereas massive charnockites developed from igneous protoliths. |
