Summary: | A unique feature of a recent ordinance adopted by the Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago is that the surcharge for industrial wastes is computed from unit costs for transportation and treatment and is based on liquid volume, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and suspended solids (SS). Industrial plants are required to sample and analyze their wastes and report the results to the sanitary district. Unit costs are $0.02098/1,000 gal ($0.00554/cu m) for liquid; $0.01383/lb ($0.0305/kg) for BOD; and $0.0234/lb ($0.515/kg) for SS. A deduction of $0.00357/day/employee for sanitary waste is allowed. |
