Summary: | Images from weather satellites and radar can enhance the forecasters' analysis of weather situations and provide clues on likely developments for up to about a day ahead. Ways of fully exploiting imagery are discussed, taking into account progress in the development of conceptual models for understanding the main physical and dynamical processes at work in mid-latitude weather systems and new advances in technology for displaying images. International collaboration is being initiated for producing suitable training materials for the forecaster on interpreting images, including a manual prepared jointly by authors from North America and Europe. |
