Summary:Grapevine production reaches 65,000 tons annually in the 7,000 ha viticultural area in Tekirdag, the main production province of the Thrace region. More than 50 varieties are grown in the district, although very few are dominant. During the surveys that have been done to determine the main phytopathological problems in vineyards, sudden death of the plants and diffuse necrosis on the leaves were observed. The most common symptoms of esca were chlorotic, light-green, irregularly diffused foliar spots which later became yellow-brown or reddish and finally turned necrotic. These areas were surrounded by a narrow dark red border. Internal symptoms of the disease were observed as rotted tissues extending downward and upward along the trunk. Many grapevine varieties were affected drastically, a few had very mild symptoms of esca and no decline. The Cardinal, Semillon, Yapincak and Kozak Siyahi varieties were severely affected [Nell'area viticola di Tekirdag, la principale provincia per questa produzione nella regione della Tracia, la produzione raggiunge le 65.000 tonnellate annue su una superficie di 7.000 ha. Nella provincia vengono coltivati piu' di 50 vitigni, anche se sono pochi quelli dominanti. Nel corso delle indagini effettuate per definire i principali problemi fitopatologici dei vigneti, sono state osservate morti improvvise di piante e necrosi diffuse sulle foglie. I sintomi piu' comuni del mal dell'esca consistevano in macchie fogliari clorotiche, verde chiaro, diffuse irregolarmente, che successivamente diventavano giallo-brune o rossastre e, infine, necrotizzavano. Queste aree erano circondate da un margine sottile, di colore rosso scuro. Come sintomi interni della malattia, si osservavano tessuti marcescenti che si estendevano verso l'alto e verso il basso lungo il tronco. Molti vitigni presentavano sintomi molto gravi, pochi presentavano sintomi lievi del mal dell'esca e nessuna forma di deperimento.
