Summary:In this paper, we present parallel editions of excerpts from two sixth century versions of Galen’s de alimentorum facultatibus, one Greek (Weissenberg 64, a palimpsest) and the other Syriac (BL Add. 17,156). The excerpt contains the end of Chapter 57 (on asparagoi), all of Chapter 58 (on shoots), and two thirds of Chapter 59 (on Variation in the parts of edible plants); the final chapter includes a lengthy quotation Dom Mnesidieus of Athens. We also discuss Sergius as a translator, concluding that he is both faithful and skilled.
