Summary: | Pelroglyphs in building blocks have been reported at sites in southwestern Colorado since the explorations on Mesa Verde in the early part of this century. Although they have been noted, they are quite rare, and very little is known about how they were originally incorporated in structures. Recent finds at Sand Canyon Pueblo may show a correlation between petroglyphs in rooms and kiva suite units. Identification or reconstruction of the original locations of architectural petroglyphs is critical to their interpretation. |
