Summary:"Nonpathogenic" avian influenza was detected by virus isolation or serology in commercial poultry in sixteen states from 1992 through 1996. Major outbreaks involving more than one million turkeys occurred in Minnesota in 1991 and 1995 and in Utah in 1995. Vaccine usage was reported in turkeys in 4 states - Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio and Utah. Two chicken flocks were detected with influenza in 1996. No vaccine usage was reported in chickens.
