Summary:This study has three main purposes : a) to discuss some theoretical problems concerning the concept of explanation (Grize, 1980; Veneziano, 1999, etc.) and humour (Bariaud, 1983 ; Aimard, 1988, etc.) in child language, b) to present some data supporting our approach, taken from journal - noted by the mother - of one 3 ; 4 year-old Brazilian child interacting spontaneously with his sister and mother, c) to observe the way the child constructs the statements through the dynamic of explanation that results, on one hand, in requests of explanation and, on the other hand, in explaining answers that produce the laugh (the humour) in the child and/or in the speaker. The last section is mainly intended to illustrate some conclusions that may emerge from our approach and results.
