Description
Summary:This paper aims to inform about the methodology and certain results of a case study carried out by a group of research workers of the Institute of Sociology at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The main question answered by the authors is whether there were differences in the election behavior of three Czechoslovak generations, which developed psychologically and politically in different historical conditions around the years 1948, 1968 and 1989, and by what attributes their behavior was differentiated. The fundamental social changes that occurred in the approximately 2O-year intervals make it possible to express the hypothesis on intergeneration discontinuity, which appears, among other things, in election behavior. The intergenerational differences presented in this paper were indicated by means of the voters' relationship to selected goals - arranged as a dichotomy - which were included in the election programs of the parties competing for seats. In addition to interpreting the differences found, the authors describe the construction of the indicators used.
