Summary:This essay, which deals with the music of Robert Lopez, a.k.a. El Vez, the 'Mexican Elvis,' considers the artistic strategy of impersonation and of signifyin' in the context of what Deleuze and Guattari have called 'minor art.' El Vez's poetics, which are based on a specifically postmodern 'pleasure of influence,' allow for the treatment of often traumatic experiences from the position of an—as Lopez calls himself —'original hybrid.'
