Summary: | The present anthropological study was conducted with a view to ascertain if the metrical parameters of the Ilium bone could provide conclusive evidence as to the sex of the individual. Ilia of hundred and twenty adult dry hipbones of both sexes were examined with special reference to the "Chilotic Line" and "Chilotic Index". Measurements of the two segments of the "Chilotic Line" were taken with the help of Sliding Caliper; the ratio between the segments and the "Chilotic Index" were determined. Jt was observed that the pelvic segment of the "Chilotic Line" is Longer in Fsmales as compared to the Males and reverse in case of the sacral segment, the other segment of the "Chilotic Line". The "Chilotic Index" is less than 100 in Females (mean value being 84.52) while the same is more than 100 in Males (Mean value being 114.96). Thus, the sex of the Hip bone can be assessed upto about 97.% confidence with the help of "Chilotic Line" and "Index" only. |
