Summary:Density variations in the timber of Ramin (Gonystylus bancanus (Miq.) Baill. are considered in material drawn from three sites, the padang forest, from the deltaic swamp and from the coastal swamp. Tables illustrate variations outwards from the pith and at various distances from the pith. Graphs are then drawn to illustrate variations in basic density and a diagram followed by a table deal with percentages of different tissues at different distances from the pith. The most striking difference observed was, unexpectedly, the higher proportion of fibres in the wood of the coastal swamp.
