Variations of the Wind Speed in the Lower Atmosphere of Kuwait

Monthly variations of surface wind speed as well as monthly variations of wind speed with height up to 25 km above sea level are presented over a four-year period (1993-1996) for the state of Kuwait. The monthly wind speed profiles for winter season are found to have the same trend. Up to a certain...

description Monthly variations of surface wind speed as well as monthly variations of wind speed with height up to 25 km above sea level are presented over a four-year period (1993-1996) for the state of Kuwait. The monthly wind speed profiles for winter season are found to have the same trend. Up to a certain height, where the maximum wind speed occurs, the relationship between the average wind speed and height is nearly linear. Then, the wind speed shows a continuous decrease with height until a second change occurs. For summer season, the average wind speed profiles do not appear to follow the same trend as is the case for winter season. Two mathematical equations are introduced to represent the wind speed variations with height, one for winter season and the other for summer season. A comparison between the surface wind speed for Kuwait and some other countries in the Arabian Gulf region is also included.
