Summary:In the 1970s Ingrid Caven, the German actress, triumphed in Paris with her bilingual Chanson-, »Schlager«- and Songrepertoire. Her style could be summarized as a mix of the German cabaret tradition in the first half of the 20th century and also the newer tendencies of French music hall. Soon the diva became the muse of famous directors, writers and designers. This article explains the development of the singer between two languages and music cultures, focusing on the significant inspirations and innovations »Miss Fassbinder« had on the present chanson.
