Summary:Thailand has historically emerged on the prevailing side throughout a long succession of political and military struggles in Southeast Asia and, as such, has served as a bellwether of emerging political realignments in the area. In this article the author discusses the prospects for successful implementation of the Nixon Doctrine in Asia-after the withdrawal of large numbers of U.S. military forces from South Vietnam-in view of recent indicators emanating from Bangkok.
