Description
Summary:The increase of specific output in diesel engines which has developed lately, and the need for a quick response to the market requirements, has imposed remarkable changes in the design of the diesel engine components. This has also resulted in a change in the design of injection equipment. In fact, the dimensioning of the equipment as a simple definition of geometrical and mechanical characteristics of the various components in the designing phase has been replaced by the necessity to single out possible operation faults and to define the measures necessary for their elimination. This is possible only with the aid of highly improved calculation methods, suitable to simulate as accurately as possible the phenomena to be identified. The calculation method discussed in this paper was carried out on the basis of these considerations. This method was obviously not originated in its present form, but is the result of amplifications and improvements, still in progress, made over many years in accordance with the new necessities and also with the techniques that became available from time to time.
