Description
Summary:Using salary and journal article publication data for business school faculty members at a university that uses rolling, three-year employment contracts, rather than a traditional, tenure-track employment contracting method, this study identifies and measures statistically significant relationships between business school faculty members’ salaries and both the quantity and quality of their research output. Without considering journal quality, the results of this study suggest that the average effect on faculty members’ salaries at this institution is 1.4% per published journal article. Taking journal quality into consideration, based on a combination of two readily available journal quality lists, the results suggest that the average effect on faculty members’ salaries is 3.5% per article published in higher quality journals.
