Summary: | Arthroscopic debridement could be an alternative to or postponed total knee arthroplasty or high tibial osteotomy in the management of degenerative knee disease. Between Jan. 1983 and Jun. 1991, nineteen patients (twenty-two knee) who had an degenerative knee disease were managed by arthroscopic debridement. The patients were followed for an average of sixty-nine months (range, eight months to mne years). Sixteen (73 percent) of the twenty-two knees had maintained improvement at follow-up. Only two (9 percent) of the twenty-two knees showed no improvement. All of the two (one at eight months after arthroscopic debridement, the other at two years after that) were managed by total knee arthroplasty. The remaining four (18 percent) showed temporary improvement. Temporary improvement lasted an average of twenty and half months (range, two to thirty-seven months). |
