Summary:Cheryl Cheek Carroll is a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) who began practicing in 1992 and has worked for many years at Durham Women's Clinic. In addition to her training as a midwife, she is a Sex Therapist and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In this interview, she talks about how these approaches intersect to benefit her clients. She discusses her early life and racial integration in her school in Warren County, North Carolina, and how continuing to live in the Piedmont region has meant that people from these early years have come to be her healthcare patients. She speaks to demographic changes around her own practice and the Durham community, and her thoughts on critical conversations to have around equal access to healthcare and culturally competent client interactions.
