2-4 Effects of Airflow on Thermoregulation and Sleep Stages in a Warm Humid Climate
Total seventeen male subjects slept wearing short pyjamas on a bed with a cotton blanket under the following conditions: 26℃, 50%RH with an air velocity of 0.2 ms-1 (26/50) and 32℃, 80%RH with an air velocity of 1.7 ms-1 (32/80 with airflow) or 32℃, 80%RH with an air velocity of 0.2 ms-1 (32/80 with...

Summary: | Total seventeen male subjects slept wearing short pyjamas on a bed with a cotton blanket under the following conditions: 26℃, 50%RH with an air velocity of 0.2 ms-1 (26/50) and 32℃, 80%RH with an air velocity of 1.7 ms-1 (32/80 with airflow) or 32℃, 80%RH with an air velocity of 0.2 ms-1 (32/80 with still air). EEG, EOG and EMG were measured for all subjects, and their rectal temperature (Tre), and skin temperatures were continuously recorded. No significant differences were observed in the durations of all sleep stages between 26/50 and 32/80 with airflow, although the total duration of wakefulness decreased significantly at 32/80 with airflow as compared to that at 32/80 with still air (p |
