Description
Summary:Urinastatin (UT) is a trypsin inhibitor found in human urine. We reported previously that a UT-like immunoreactive substance with trypsin inhibitory activity was found in mouse brain. In the present study, we measured regional levels of the substance in mouse brain with sandwich enzyme immunoassay. The levels were within 5 ng/mg protein and were in a descending order as follows: cerebral cortex ≒ hippocampus> hypothalamus>mesencephalon ≒ corpus striatum >> medulla oblongata> cerebellum. Conditioned fear-stress induction produced a reversible increase in the level of a UT-like substance in hippocampus. These results suggest that the UT-like substance in the brain rises in response to stress stimuli.
