Biphasic actions of pentobarbital on the murine 5-MeODMT-induced head-twitch response

This study examined the effects of dose of pentobarbital on the 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeODMT) induced head-twitch response in mice. Adult male ddY mice were administered subcutaneously vehicle(saline), 0.5, 5.0 and 50 mg/kg pentobarbital saline solution. Five min. later, 10 mg/kg 5-MeO...

Description
Summary:This study examined the effects of dose of pentobarbital on the 5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeODMT) induced head-twitch response in mice. Adult male ddY mice were administered subcutaneously vehicle(saline), 0.5, 5.0 and 50 mg/kg pentobarbital saline solution. Five min. later, 10 mg/kg 5-MeODMT was injected intrapertoneally. The head-twitch response was measured over the 2nd to 4th minutes after 5-MeODMT administration. Brain monoamines, their metabolites and GABA were determined by HPLC with electrochemical detection in mouse cortex and hippocampus after 2 min. of 5-MeODMT injection. Frequencies of 5-MeODMT-induced head-twitch in mice receiving 0.5, 5.0 and 50 mg/kg pentobarbital were respectively, 31.9%, 93% and 217% of controls. 5-HT was significantly increased (p
