Immunohistochemical analysis of Dkk-3 expression in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

Previously, we performed genome-wide analysis for the detection of tumor suppressor gene (TSG) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Description
Summary:Previously, we performed genome-wide analysis for the detection of tumor suppressor gene (TSG) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Then we focused on Dkk-3 as a candidate TSG, of which the function was down-regulated in various kinds of tumors. In the present study, we investigated Dkk-3 protein expression in HNSCC by immunohistochemistry. Dkk-3 protein expression was observed in the cancer nest and adjacent dysplastic epithelium, normal epithelium and small vessels in various degrees, regardless of TNM stage or histological grading. The results suggest that Dkk-3 protein expression might play an important role in carcinogenesis step of HNSCC.
