Summary:Content Partner: Alexander Turnbull Library. Scrapbook, including lithographs and newsclippings, from the Balneavis family's time living in Malta in the 1830s, other newsclippings, lithographs and engravings of European landscapes and buildings, two New Zealand drawings by John Alexander Gilfillan, a watercolour by Joseph Jenner Merrett, a wash drawing by Cuthbert Clarke, engraved plans of Ruapekapeka Pa and wash drawings of plans of the York and Rutland Stockades in Wanganui. Also includes albumen prints of New Zealand views, an ink drawing of 'Position occupied by the Natives on 19 July at St John's Wood sketched by A. Steelpen of Wanganui' (possibly Richard Taylor), an ink cartoon of a General on his way to New Zealand, two copies of a wood engraving of the Auckland Post Office burning down in 1872, signatures of Eliza Hobson, Robert Fitzroy, Symonds and Shortland, an ink cartoon of Ensign Mulligan of 58th Regiment by Captain Nugent, and a photograph of King Kalakaua of Hawaii. Includes newsclippings of Balneavis family events, such as the marriages of two daughters. Enclosures include newsclippings and other material, removed and stored separately alongside the album in archival containers. The journal includes a folder of photographs and clippings. Loose enclosures in box Provenance: Note at the beginning of the journal (MSY-7107) says 'Copied from an old book belonging to my father, with additions and information relative to the Balneavis and Graham families, etc etc - H P Balneavis, Auckland ...
