Summary: | Content Partner: Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research. Report on an area of light coastal forest with Mamaku on the property of F.W. Helps, Flea Bay, Banks Peninsula. The low forest is dominated by mahoe and kawakawa with a rich assemblage of associated woody plants, 4 tree ferns and a rich ground fern flora. A ground orchid, Corybas orbiculatus, at present known only from 1 other site on the peninsula, is present. Mamaku is rare on the peninsula and not at present included in any reserve. This area is firmly recommended as a reserve for mamaku and also as a further example of light coastal forest on the peninsula. (auth) |
