Summary: | Gives an overview of the nature of currently operating intergenerational trust funds (ITFs), what distinguishes them one from the other, and their particular strengths and weaknesses from a legal point of view. Considers the mechanisms by which these funds may be established, the typical management structures, whether the funds are always trusts, and the nature of the trustee, transparency and accountability rules. Notes the financial aspects of the operation of funds, the range of investment strategies and the role of maintenance of the real value of a fund. Provides examples and reflects on past and present practice in relation to such funds and identifies what is or should be best practice for such funds.
