Description
Summary:Comments on education in the arts having a poor reputation for creating employment opportunities, and discusses transferable skills and the non-linear career paths taken by arts graduates - who have similar long-term employment rates as other graduates. Looks at how the public can relate to various fields of academic study, and discusses the three areas in which education suits people for work - reckoning or training in deductive rule-based methodologies, wrighting or training in practical hands-on construction or maintenance of things, and reasoning. Comments on how training for a volatile employment market rather than a job for life suggests the need for a balanced, interdisciplinary education and for a collaborative rather than individual approach to educational tasks.
