Summary: | This paper presents a compact, multi-wavelength, and high-frequency-response light source named the bio-optical sub-assembly (BiOSA). The BiOSA is used to measure the absorption and the reduced scattering coefficients from diffuse optics-based biomedical systems. It is equipped with six laser diodes and one optical fiber with a 400-
μ
m diameter core. Simulations can be used to determine the design parameters and to confirm the feasibility of the BiOSA. The evaluation results indicate that the coupling efficiency of the fabricated BiOSA is 80 ∼ 85%, and the frequency response is up to 3.38 GHz. |
