Description
Summary:The inelastic scattering of vibrationally excited NO (v = 1) with Ar at a collision energy of 3.0 kcal mol-1 was investigated in crossed beams. Vibrationally excited NO was generated by flash heating and rotationally cooled by the supersonic expansion. The differential cross sections were compared to those of the vibrational ground state NO (v = 0) with Ar, which were also compared to theoretical calculations for scattering from the ground vibrational level. Finally, the differential cross sections show a similar strong j dependence of the rotational rainbow maxima from the inelastic scattering for both NO (v = 0) and (v = 1) but no significant differences between NO (v = 0) and (v = 1) were seen.
