Chloride Oxidation as an Alternative to the Oxygen-Evolution Reaction on HxWO3 Photoelectrodes
Oxidizing chloride anion to chlorine or hypochlorous acid in water shows 100% current efficiency on HxWO3 photoelectrodes. Water oxidation is less than 90% efficient in strong acid and gets worse as the solution becomes less acidic. Accordingly, oxidizing chloride leads to a stable photocurrent, ind...

Summary: | Oxidizing chloride anion to chlorine or hypochlorous acid in water shows 100% current efficiency on HxWO3 photoelectrodes. Water oxidation is less than 90% efficient in strong acid and gets worse as the solution becomes less acidic. Accordingly, oxidizing chloride leads to a stable photocurrent, indicating that the catalysis is sustainable for long periods without degrading the HxWO3 material. |
