Description
Summary:Proper distribution of conditioned air plays an important role in both the comfort of the occupants and the air quality of ventilated or air-conditioned spaces. The objective of this study was to gather accurate experimental data using two different types of diffusers under different operating conditions for the determination of both the fluid dynamics and thermal characteristics of air motion present in a realistic room. Experimental testing was preformed on both a high side wall grille and a linear slot ceiling diffuser. For each of these two diffusers, experimental data were collected for both cooling and isothermal conditions at the same volumetric flow rate. It was observed that the two different diffusers perform quite differently under the same operating conditions. The high side wall grille introduced more air into the occupied zone of the room than did the linear slot ceiling diffuser. This difference directly affected both the fluid dynamics and thermal characteristics in the room. In addition, operating under cooling or isothermal conditions also affected the jet behavior.
