Skyrmions - Construction and Applications

Skyrmions are topologically stabilised solutions in a field theory of pions, and are used to model protons, neutrons and larger nuclei. They have been constructed by a combination of numerical methods and geometrical insight. Ideas to extend the range of known solutions are discussed.
