Summary: | The random character of the cellular radiation effect does not have to depend always on the variability of radiation sensitivity or on an inhomogeneous distribution of the absorbed energy on the units of an irradiated population or their bombarded regionNone,'' but can also be caused by dispersed injuries'' that increase continuously with dose in all units, if these increase the inherent lability of the living system. The beginning critical occurrence'' that decides the commencement of the test reaction, therefore, does not have to be furnished absolutely by the energy absorption, but can lie in a later member of the causal chain. A chsracteristic of the survival curve was its slope, whose size is designated as reactivity, in semi-logarithmic construction. It showed that the reactivity can increase with dose. If the reactivity, with increasing dose leads to an end value, then this can depend on the fact that one of the vital objects inherent in the compensation capability is exhausted at this dose. In some cases the biochemical nature of such a capability was plain. |
