Summary: | A fixed filter paper alpha air monitor has been developed which will sound an alarm within 15 minutes for a uranium dust in air concentration of 6 picocuries per cubic foot. The cause and effect of background variations are discussed. Typical natural background data accumulated over a six months period are included. A prototype instrument has been built and operated satisfactorily. The final model of the instrument which is in the design stage will be housed in a cabinet 13 inches high, 15 inches deep, and 21 1/2 inches wide. Pictorial and schematic diagrams are included. |
