Summary: | Organic geochemists are interested in determining the exact structure and relative concentrations of metalloporphyrins and high molecular weight cyclic and acyclic hydrocarbon since these are potentially important biomarkers in petroleum exploration. This paper describes recent efforts in high-temperature gas chromatography/electron impact mass spectrometry (GC/EIMS) and gas chromatography/field ionization mass spectrometry (GC/FIMS) analysis of these relatively high molecular weight components in petroleum and petroleum sediments. |
