Description
Summary:Exit gases and temperatures were recorded in the stack of an industrial incinerator during batch loading of single plastic packs containing a xylene/sorbent mixture. Average values of continuously recorded oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, total hydrocarbon, and temperature are reported from two locations on a vertical cross-section near the kiln exit. Considerable stratification was noted at the exit during plastic pack treatment for all operating conditions analyzed. Significant bursts of xylene evolution are inferred from continuous measurements of stable species and temperature and from visual observation. Stack emissions remained well within regulatory limits, even during the most vigorous bursts.
