Total cross sections of bottom and charmed mesons on protons
Using a simple energy independent scaling law, we predict the values of the total cross sections {sigma}({ital B}{sup {plus minus}}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital B}{sub {ital d},}{ital s}{sup 0}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital {bar B}} {sub {ital d},}{ital s}{sup 0}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital D}{sub {ital d},}{ital...

Summary: | Using a simple energy independent scaling law, we predict the values of the total cross sections {sigma}({ital B}{sup {plus minus}}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital B}{sub {ital d},}{ital s}{sup 0}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital {bar B}} {sub {ital d},}{ital s}{sup 0}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital D}{sub {ital d},}{ital s}{sup {plus minus}}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital D}{sup 0}{ital p}), {sigma}({ital {bar D}} {sup 0}{ital p}) from known total {ital Kp} cross sections. We assume that mesons with the same light valence quark {ital q} and differing only by their heavy-valance-quark content {ital Q} have total cross sections on protons which scale as the inverse of the {ital n}th power of the reduced mass of the meson. We predict that {sigma}(({ital Q{bar q}}){ital p}){gt}{sigma}(({ital {bar Q}q}){ital p}). |
