description | Pacific Rim nations have become dominant as a major market for entrepreneurial persons of industrial countries. During the 1980s and today, a majority of goods and services exported to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and China are from other Asian countries and the European Union (EU). The author believes advanced U.S. technology and service to be beneficial to both the U.S. and PRC. In the fall of 1987, a 130-ton geothermal heat pump (GHP) system and energy management control (EMC) system were successfully designed, exported, commissioned, and operated for a commercial office building in Shanghai, China. A key factor was the author's construction management personnel, People's Republic of China (PRC) engineering professionals, PRC management, and PRC labor personnel. The ground-source heat pump (GSHP) system operated according to specifications during heating and cooling cycle testing within the building. It is understood that the GHP system has had minimum maintenance problems, continues to perform as designed, and provides energy and environmental benefits. |
