Summary: | A compressor-driven metal hydride heat pump (CDMHHP) using reactors manufactured with porous metal hydride compacts was built, and calorimetry tests were performed to measure performance. The experimental results indicate that the present CDMHHP can produce a cold output of approximately 0.25 kW/kg of LaNi sub(5) with a cycle time of one minute. Overall, the present CDMHHP with a compressor efficiency of only 31% showed good performance with an EER sub(c) of 9-11 under typical cooling conditions. With an improved compressor, much higher performance would be achieved. |
