Preparation of orthorhombic Ba sub 2 YCu sub 3 O sub 7 powder by single-step calcining

BaCO sub 3 , Y sub 2 O sub 3 , and CuO are precursor materials. Use of a vacuum during initial calcination stages promotes complete decomposition of the carbonate. An O sub 2 atm during later calcination stages ensures proper oxidation to Ba sub 2 YCu sub 3 O sub 7 .
