A stable. mu. -peroxo complex of rhodium(II) intercalated in the interlamellar spaces of montmorillonite. Solid-state sup 27 Al, sup 29 Si, and sup 31 P NMR and EPR investigation

Formation of the {mu}-peroxo Rh(II) complex by the oxygenation of cationic (Rh(PPh{sub 3}){sub 3}){sup +} species trapped in the hydration layer of montomorillonite is reported herein. The complex has been characterized by IR, EPR, ESCA, x-ray, and solid state {sup 27}Al, {sup 29}Si, and {sup 31}P N...

Description
Summary:Formation of the {mu}-peroxo Rh(II) complex by the oxygenation of cationic (Rh(PPh{sub 3}){sub 3}){sup +} species trapped in the hydration layer of montomorillonite is reported herein. The complex has been characterized by IR, EPR, ESCA, x-ray, and solid state {sup 27}Al, {sup 29}Si, and {sup 31}P NMR spectroscopy. Oxygenation of Wilkinson's complex outside the lattice was found to give the well-defined RhCl(O{sub 2})(PPh{sub 3}){sub 3} and the dimeric (RhCl(PPh{sub 3}){sub 2}O{sub 2}){sub 2} complexes. 26 refs., 5 figs.
